Beautiful athleticism

This is the kind of performer that makes me feel like I really should have started aerials many many years ago as well as keeping up the gymnastics I did as a child. Eike Von Stuckenbrok is an amazing performer. I can’t read German so I don’t know what any of his website says but I know he’s strong, very strong, flexible, dynamic and one hell of a performer.

Looking at these photos, he’s also not shy and is very in tune with his body. If anyone knows any more about Eike, feel free to let me know!

Me, full of attitude

I’m one of those people that can’t really do aggressive or intimidating very well, so last night’s gig was quite a challenge but a lot of fun. It was a staff christmas party with a Punk theme. They really went all out with decorations and entertainment. They had a punk band, for which the lead singer for some reason decided to perform in his underwear, they had a drag queen with attitude (don’t they all), a couple of performance artists and some people piercing their flesh which I flatly refused to watch. I get very squeamish with that stuff.

Lil and I were hired to be statues. So I cracked out my kilt, the boots, some dodgy as all hell eye makeup and my brand spanking mohawk. I was positioned on the landing halfway to the ladies toilets which caused a few surprised looks having a supposedly scary man in a kilt and fuck-off boots standing in dramatic lights when they were on their way to pee. A few of them made me crack my facade, but overall it was great.

This is what I aspire to

This guy’s performance is beautiful. Of course, there aren’t many places to perform that have the systems to raise and lower the performer but his strength and some of the moves are things I want to learn!

Degrees of gay?

I’ve just got home from “El Circo” which is the dinner/show night that I’ll hopefully soon be pole dancing at. One of the acts there is a male belly dancer and I have to say, despite me doing pole dancing and aerial silks, it’s one of the gayest things I’ve ever seen. When a man comes out in a lime green lycra ensemble with a silver pleated cape and starts belly dancing it does throw you for a bit of a loop. Especially when you consider that in the middle east, where belly dancing originates from my understanding, he’d probably be hung or stoned to death for being gay in the first place. The guy is very talented and has amazing control of his body, but it’s an odd spectacle to see, but I’m all for challenging ideas and stereotypes.
