Get your MAGIC now!

Olivia Newton-John has made her appearance on Dancing with the Stars and the song is available NOW! The team behind the new version of the song have worked so hard to get this off the ground and they’ve done a great job. I love this new version of Magic. Remember, ALL proceeds (every cent of every sale) goes to Olivia’s Cancer Wellness Centre charity.

Buy the song here. UPDATE: I have found out that the song at this stage is only available in Australia and New Zealand.

It’s going to be MAGIC.

What happens when you throw together a classic song from an icon of the music industry with one of the gay scene in Australia’s best DJ’s? You get a song that is going to be number one!

Olivia Newtown John has been a household name around the world since Grease. I remember seeing Grease at the Drive-In Cinema with my family as a double feature with Xanadu. Olivia is a bit older now but she still looks great and has a lot of great projects on the boil.  She runs a charity called the “Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness Centre” and DJ Dan Murphy along with the Australian Creative Collective has reworked and revitalised “Magic” from the Xanadu soundtrack and it’s fantastic.

The song is going to be launched on Sunday night Australia time on our version of Dancing With the Stars and will be available on iTunes immediately after. ALL the proceeds are going to Olivia’s charity. I also happen to know that Dan Murphy & Steve Peach were working on the club mix today. Stay tuned, and click here for a sneaky snippet of the song!

Brave music video

Thank goodness for the internet. If it weren’t for the wonders of technology I’m pretty sure I’d never have seen this music video from a German singer called Jay Khan. In the video Jay leaves his house but as he walks down the street he proceeds to take off all his clothes so that by the end he’s completely naked. He even shaves his head in the video and it is real.

There are flashes to a chorus of nude figures singing as well and at the end of the video our nude protagonist is standing amongst them. It’s pretty safe to say that this video wouldn’t be aired in Australia and certainly not in the U.S. There’s no full frontal nudity but since the U.S. tv blurs out butt crack in “Survivor” this video would just be a screen full of flesh coloured blur.

I have no idea what the song is about, but it’s called “Nackt” which is German for Naked. I’m guessing there’s more to it than that but I thought it was a brave video.

Another kid with a massive voice

Here in Australia, people that win talent shows tend to disappear from view but still, year after year we get them entering anyway. Australia’s Got Talent has just started another season with the gorgeous Dannii Minogue as one of the judges. Jack Vidgen is a 14 year old kid with one hell of a voice. Intriguing song choice for a young guy but I guess it’s a good way to show of those lungs!

Absolutely brilliant

This afternoon, in one of the laziest days on record, I came across a documentary on Michael Buble and in part of it he’s on stage in Britain somewhere and a mother comes up to the stage and gets his attention and mentions her son (also in the audience) who can sing. Michael plays along and decides why not, let’s get him up on stage.

Now, that’s about where I expected cringe worthy embarrassing footage. Sam is 15 and his mum thinks he can sing really well. Perfect combo for an awkward Idol audition and hilarious television. Not quite how it panned out. Check out how it unfolded. I had tears.

Zoe gets MASHED

Sydney based DJ, Dan Murphy has decided that one Zoe Badwi song isn’t enough so he’s taken two of her songs and given them the “Rockyourbox” Mashup treatment. It’s a great mashup and Zoe always seems to release cool tracks, so a tw0-for-one bargain is always a good deal!

It’s a chemical anthology

Every now and then someone comes up with an idea that you think will go really well. A few years ago a friend I had just met told me about an idea that I thought was really good. A few years later and he’s finally making it happen.

Next Friday night, in conjunction with EMI and Dendy cinema, SEESOUNDS presents the first of hopefully many music video anthologies. Over two hours, music videos of a particular artist will be featured, sometimes to coincide with a tour or album release.

The first artists off the mark are Chemical Brothers who have done some great music videos! I’m not a devoted fan of their music but am really excited to see the format of the evening and to enjoy the visual feast it brings.

Tickets are limited for this event, $20 for students, $30 for adults and for a price of $45, VIP’s will get priority reserve seating, a chemical brothers poster and a CD from EMI records. Come along and support the event because I for one would love to see more of these. Maybe a Kylie one when she tours in June?

For tickets email edds.simon@gmail.com and visit the seesounds website or follow them on facebook.

I have an issue with this video

A few days ago a video I posted caused quite a controversy because the guys that were nude in it seemed on the young side. I understand where people were coming from but to be honest I have way more of an issue with this music video.

Milk67 have released this video with the very sexy Nick Beyeler in it but this video lives up to every stereotype of the cliched gay man that the rest of the world is having trouble accepting. A man is following a girl he finds attractive (in a stalky creepy way) and ends up following her into a monastery where all the GAY monks/clerics/priests are dancing in skimpy toga style robes to dance music. Once he’s there they give him a drink, strip him of his clothes, convert him and he forgets about women altogether.

Now I know this video isn’t meant to be taken seriously but it totally plays up to the image of shallow gay men only listening to dance music, not wearing much dying to get their hands on a piece of fresh straight meat to convert and leave their creamy load all over. Sorry, it’s just a boring stereotype.

What a weekend.

Don’t you love it when a weekend just unfolds nicely? Friday night I had a mate come over that I hadn’t seen in ages which was lovely. Saturday morning I got up and in the morning I photographed two guys at once for my exhibition which was a bit daunting. I’ve never shot two at once but it was relatively successful and a good warm up for shooting 7 guys at once next weekend. That was followed by picking up some stuff for another photo shoot and paying the rest of the fee for the gallery.

Last night was a friend’s birthday drinks which was lots of fun and involved me developing a big crush on the birthday girl’s brother. Seriously hot. Sunday morning this morning and I woke up a tiny bit dusty from the beers last night but got organised and headed to the beach for several hours of nude bliss with friends in the sun. Love it.

What could make the weekend better? Not one but TWO new Kylie videos. One for her duet with Taio Cruz and her new solo single, Better Than Today. Enjoy.

Now that’s a music video

I’ve not heard of these guys before. Given they don’t sing in English I’m probably not their target market but I do like their music videos.

Apparently there are a few things besides a singing voice to be recruited for this group. A love of tattoos, a rigorous gym schedule, a rigorous hair removal schedule and a love for getting your gear off in front of a camera. Personally it’s working for me.

Get your music here.

Masterbeat is a site that’s just been brought to my attention. It’s a site for downloading cool remixes and dance music, something that we gays seem to have a connection with. God knows I can dance around the house to diva mixes for hours. Go check it out. I’m chatting to them about the possibility of running a competition to giveaway download credits to readers! I’ll keep you posted.

THIS is a music video?

Music videos like this just don’t make it to air here in Australia and I dare say very few other places around the world. You have to hand it to the French. You want full frontal nudity? Violence? Vomiting? Sex scenes? Sure, we can do that!

The singer has a rocking body, is very good looking and isn’t shy. Ticks quite a few of the boxes I like in something to look at.

A beautiful Passenger.

Every now and then a record company sends me a CD. Sometimes I review them, sometimes I don’t. If I don’t, it means I didn’t like the CD and I’m not going to bag it out just because it’s not my taste. If it were rubbish I’d say so but most of them are good music, just not the sort of thing I listen to.

This week I got a preview copy of “Passenger’s” new album. It’s absolutely beautiful. Passneger (aka Mike Rosenberg) has collaborated with a slew of very talented Australian artists such as Katie Noonan and former Australian Idol runner up Matt Corby. A standout is the beautiful track “The One You Love” with Kate Miller Keidke that is just a gorgeous song.

Passenger – Golden Thread feat Matt Corby from Passenger on Vimeo.

Overall the album conjures up sun-drenched days with the sun dappling it’s way through the leaves come to life on a flickering Super 8 home movie. It’s going to be a regular in my car on those summer road trips.

The XXX Factor!

They are called the reason and they are inexplicably hot. I’ve said many times on this blog that I’m not particularly fussed on lots of tattoos but these guys do them ever so well. They have the bad boy gone good, or good guy gone bad look about them. You’d take them home to mum, she’d tsk tsk about the tattoos but then she’s fall in love with them. Then they start singing.

Four very hot, buff, tattooed tradesmen singing in an acapella vocal harmony group? Kinda works. I’m picturing them serenading me then having dirty passionate wild sex before sweet cuddles and coffee afterwards. Sigh.

Sunday review time.

I thought it was time for another Sunday review. First up comes Memphis Blues from Cyndi Lauper. It’s quite a departure from the Cyndi that I know, with Cyndi exploring the Blues style with great success. Granted I don’t know a bunch about Blues but it sounds good to me. It’s the kind of album you put on for a cool bunch of friends and a great dinner party.

Friday night saw me visit the wilds of suburbia to catch up with friends for dinner and DVD. Shutter Island was that DVD. So bad was that DVD that we never got to the end. Green screen effects were bad, story wasn’t that interesting and we just didn’t care.

Kylie has a new number 1 album on her hands here in Australia with Aphrodite hitting number 1 on iTunes on it’s first day of release. Now, some might say that Kylie could burp our national anthem and I’d buy it, the remixes and scour the internet for bootleg b-sides and they might be right. This album took a couple of listens to really take hold on me but I haven’t been able to write a review because it’s had me dancing with my hands in the air like I just don’t care. I love it. Closer and Aphrodite are my absolute favourites. Life is good when Kylie is releasing new music!
