A sad loss

It’s always sad when anyone dies, even more so when that person dies too young. Some celebrities you would hardly be surprised to hear they died. What are the odds that most news sources have an obituary special prepared for Lindsay Lohan ready to go?

I was quite surprised and saddened to hear that Andy Irons, champion surfer, had been found dead today. There are varying reports out there. The first I heard was that he’d succumbed to dengue fever and another report tonight said strong prescription drugs were found in his hotel room where he died.

He was successful, supposedly healthy and expecting his first child with his wife Lindy. He may not have been finding a cure for cancer but he was an idol to thousands of kids learning to surf and a champion to those dreaming of an endless summer.

Striking my Chord

I’ve just watched the “Duets” episode of Glee (we are a few weeks behind) and totally developed a crush on Chord Overstreet who plays the new kid, Sam. Buff body, gorgeous smile, FULL kissable lips and a killer singing voice. It’s like the eye candy gave me diabetes and in my diabetic coma I’m dreaming of him.

There had been whispers that his character was going to be Kurt’s love interest in the show after it was confirmed that the Glee clubs cliched homosexual Kurt was going to have a boyfriend this season but Sam has already put the moves on Quinn. Oh well.

Now that’s a nice surprise

The Jersey Shore isn’t shown on Australian television, yet, but given all the press about their Gym-Tan-Laundry and party lifestyles and their portrayal as vain dumb caricatures, this video from Vinny denouncing gay bullying is both a surprise and somewhat articulate. Very pleasantly surprised.

Please do this…

Lady Gaga may be as crazy as a loon but she is one determined lady and she has the LGBT community’s interests at heart. This video is Gaga using her immense fame for a very good cause.

The Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy doesn’t exist here in Australia but thousands of U.S. military have been discharged despite being award winning servicemen and women purely because of their sexual orientation. This video is Lady Gaga urging you U.S. citizens to call your senators to ask them to vote to repeal DADT.

From the perspective of an Australian, every step the U.S. takes towards equality and respect for the LGBT community is a good thing. Australia, and indeed a large part of the world, follows step, so please call your senator and help lead the way to true equality!

Thanks to Rob from BosGuy for sending me the video.

Hot, naked and playing gay

Trevor Donovan is a model turned actor now starring in Beverly Hills 90210 and is hotly tipped to be the character that comes out in an upcoming episode. I’ve never watched the new version of 90210 and it was axed here after only a handful of episodes but a main recurring character proves how far television has come when the producers feel like it.

Now, the question is, how long will it be before the gay mafia has us trying to believe that Trevor is indeed gay in real life? Not long I’m guessing. I’m quite often amazed at how readily the gay community almost tries to prove the “homosexual agenda” theory by trying to convert every hot male celebrity. Not that I’d complain if Trevor turned up on my doorstep asking to experiment.

If we want the wider public to believe that gay actors can play straight convincingly, surely we have to afford the straight actors the same respect for playing gay rather than assuming a secret life?

New TV Crush

I have a new TV crush. There’s a few new TV shows starting here in Australia and there’s a bit of new talent to hit our screens. The first one of the new shows started last night, called “Offspring”. I didn’t make it to the end of what I think was a 2 hour premiere but the first hour had me interested, especially in the character played by the man in the photos above. His name is Don Hany. According to Wikipedia he’s turning 35 next month and is the son of an Iraqi father and a Hungarian mother and I think the mix is working for him.

Still inspiring

This article and interview with Gareth Thomas, now 8 months after publicly coming out, proves what an extraordinary man he is. So strong, down to earth, humble and apparently a genuinely nice guy. We love it.

I wonder.

Every now and then this blog surprises me with comments from straight guys or some unexpected person. It got me wondering if any celebrities read Aussielicious. Most of the time I’m suprised anyone reads my ramblings but it would be quite bizarre to think that someone famous would bother. I’ve got no evidence that any superstars do, but would get a kick out of it if they did.

Gratuitous Kellan Lutz, again

Just because he’s pretty and buff and all that delicious stuff.

Delicious camp pop fantabulousness

I think I might just have to get the new Scissor Sisters album if it’s full of songs like this. If I was at an even like Glastonbury and enjoying the fantastically camp sensibilities of the Scissor Sisters and Ms Minogue came out on stage to do a number this cool with them, I might just explode. I know a lot of people out there don’t get the Kylie thing, but hey, she is my religion.

Happy birthday Neil… a day late

OK, the time difference confused me, so I’m a day late on wishing Neil Patrick Harris a happy 37th birthday. Neil gets my award for the best gay role model around and the best advertisement for our community amongst the straight community.

He’s funny, he’s got a killer smile, he’s not in your face, he lives his life out of the tabloids, with his beautiful boyfriend/partner. He’s got a good body without being intimidating, and he seems like a great guy willing to take the piss out of himself and have a great laugh. He can also sing and dance which will come in handy on a quiet weekend with nothing to do… I imagine.

Neil also seems to prove wrong the recent statement in the press that gay actors can’t convincingly play straight, leveled at Sean Hayes in his role on Broadway. Neil plays Barney, the womanising batchelor guy (as opposed to the big purple dinosaur) on “How I met your mother” and does a great job of it.

A belated birthday present? I’m officially giving Neil the first ever Aussielicious Award Role Model Award! Happy birthday Neil.

P.S. He’s also top of my wish list for an interview. Anyone?

I see no discomfort

When Jason Akermanis announced that straight footballers wouldn’t be comfortable with a gay teammate in the locker rooms with all the horse play and nudity he clearly wasn’t speaking for Nick Youngquest. Nick has been in the pages of DNA, drooled over by gay blogs and just adored by gay men for some time and is quite apparently very comfortable with it.

After Elton has chronicled a twitter conversation between Nick and out and proud Rugby player Gareth Thomas that gets pretty saucy and full of suggestive banter between two guys that are very comfortable with each other and a level of sexy teasing between two guys on different sides of the sexuality fence. It’s a great read, very amusing and proves that not all footballers are as neanderthal as Akermanis.

Hot property

Firass Dirani is an Australian actor who is currently riding a wave of popularity thanks to the latest installment of Underbelly. He plays John Ibrahim, nightclub boss of Kings Cross, all wrapped up in the underworld and corruption of the police force.

Firass was recently interviewed on Australian radio about being mobbed at an appearance in a Gold Coast nightclub, and he thought it was hilarious that a “tabouli cracker from the western suburbs” was being mobbed and being voted Cleo’s most eligible bachelor. Sadly in ten pages of google images, I couldn’t find any good shots of him with his shirt off. Shocking.

Gratuitous Kellan Lutz

This video is from his recent photo shoot with Interview magazine. The man is just hot.

Gratuitous UK celebrity, nude.

Danny Young is a UK actor who has just got his gear off for Attitude magazine’s annual “Naked Issue”.

I’m not familiar with his work, but I could get very familiar with his body!
