Confidence comes naturally?

Discussions with a friend last night and often with other friends are always a source of surprise. Everyone makes assumptions about people we meet based on how they look, as to how they should act. Last night’s dinner companion surprised me when he told me he gets intimidated in certain situations, which shouldn’t surprise me as other close friends are always chastising me for not being more confident. They perceive me as being good looking and therefore I should be totally confident. The truth is I don’t like going out on the gay scene, not just because it’s shallow a lot of the time, but because I feel like I walk into a club and everyone’s thinking “he’s not all that”.

The one thing I’ve realised and I’m working on is that we all have to find our own source of confidence and contentment. Find it within, not from what other people think is important about you, and run with it!

I’ve always loved this photo. Sure the guy has all the physical reasons to be confident with an amazing body and beautiful face, but I reckon a smile like that comes from a fair way inside.

My lift on the Y list?

Last night I was enjoying the El Circo experience with one of my other pole dancer colleagues enjoying the shows. One of the acts is a magician who had a cane that he seemingly made float around by itself. After his act his assistant/boyfriend (?) came and cleared his props away but accidentally left the cane propped in the corner. My mate and I were joking about having a look at it when he came back to get it. I joked with him that we were hoping he’d forget it so we could try and figure out how it was done, to which he turned and replied “Write about it on the blog and I’ll tell you how it works”. That just floored me. I do get recognised a little bit by people that read Aussielicious but usually at the nude beach or something that I’ve written about. A couple of my friends joke that I’m famous but if Kathy Griffin is on the D-List, that surely puts me way down on the Y (or why) list.

To be scene and not heard?

It’s funny, writing this blog I think I’m giving a fair representation of myself. There are elements I will leave out for privacy reasons and others so I don’t bore you  to death.

I had an email while I was away, that I’ve just read, from a reader “Tom”  who said that I was going to have to get out of the scene before I meet anyone and that it seems like I’m quite wrapped up in the gay scene. I’m actually surprised by that statement as my friends are always trying to get me out on the scene more. I don’t feel comfortable in the gay scene all that much so rarely venture into the more popular gay bars. Sure I’m doing pole dancing at a gay bar with gay men and most of my close friends that I see regularly are gay but that is actually a big change for me from  a couple of years ago when most of my close friends were straight couples.

It’s fascinating that people can get such a different impression of me from my blog than I think I’m giving and different to what I think is accurate.

5 nights of relaxation?

Today I’m heading up the coast about an hour and a half for the traditional family easter getaway. Our family, along with two other families, who are more like family than my real extended family, have been going away together at easter since all our parents were newlyweds.

We’ve been going to a seaside town for the last few years because it’s simple now that my sister and some of the other “kids” have children of their own. It’s not particularly exciting but we have a really good laugh. It’s like a soul food kinda break.

So the blog will be kinda quiet til I get back on Tuesday as I won’t have any internet access.

Technical problems

I got home from work yesterday and had every intention of doing a few posts but I think the server was down or something and I couldn’t access my own site. Oops. Not sure what happened but it still seems to be a bit glitchy.

3rd place Valentine’s post

The guys over at Restoring Love had another poll for valentines day and asked some of the gay blogging world to submit their favourite post about love. The readers have voted and Aussielicious got 3rd place! Thanks to everyone who voted for me!

Vote for your favourite

Best Gay Bloggers Blog is having another vote for people’s favourite post on love. So head on over and read through the posts and pick your favourite.

Beautiful

Apparently there are constantly people out there who don’t get the way I write, and I understand that’s going to happen. Someone has taken deep offence to my very tongue-in-cheek post about pregnant women being everywhere at the moment.

Personally I think pregnant women look amazing. Sure they have days where they are over carrying the extra belly around, and they are sore and tired, but I know your average father-to-be adores his partner’s shape. While I’m not asking that men be able to carry children and give birth I think it is a beautiful thing to behold. So to the reader who somehow took my post and derived an opinion that I was attacking pregnant women from it, I apologise if you got the wrong impression from my writing.

Live on Australia Day

Welcome to Aussielicious.com.au! It’s Australia Day here down under. It is 220 years ago today that the first fleet of Australian settlers, largely convicted criminals no matter how petty, landed on Australian soil.

Who would have known that a couple of hundred years later, we’d have treated the natives horrendously, and still do, and become one of the premier tourist destinations in the world.

Australia Day for most Aussies isn’t about recognising our history, but a day to play cricket (backyard, street or beach) drink a fair amount of alcohol, sing tragically and get a bit sunburnt. The Australian of the year was announced last night and was Lee Kernigan. He’s an Australian country singer that most Australians would be hard pressed to name one of his songs. Go figure. We have world leaders in medicine, science, environment and all sorts of other fields and we go and recognise some guy most of us don’t know.

Welcome to Aussielicious.com.au. It’s going to follow on from where the blogger version left off, with lots of nude men, hopefully some interviews, healthy debates and a lot of sarcasm and fun.
