A few months ago I did some body painting in the window of an art gallery as part of the opening of a group exhibition. Nathan was my willing model for that evening. He’s done a bit of modeling around the place for various photographers and artists which is no surprise as he is absolutely beautiful. So when I took Nathan along to Ross Watson’s exhibition shortly after and Ross showed an interest in painting Nathan I was more than happy to put them in touch.

“Naked Life Guard” is the result of that collaboration. Ross has recently finished the canvas on board piece and has already sold it to a Melbourne collector. I’m loving this new direction that Ross is taking, painting lifesavers and beach scenes. It reminds me of the time when I discovered Ross’ work and my own sexuality while I was involved in the surf lifesaving club.

I can only dream of being so successful that my works sell as soon as I release them. Instead I have framed prints left over from my exhibitions all hidden away at home, waiting for someone to buy them. Nathan has agreed to model for me for my tribal series. We just haven’t organised a time to shoot yet. I’ll make sure it’s good and that you all get to see the results.
