Once again, sad news from the porn world of the suicide of a popular porn star. Arpad Miklos’ body was found on 3rd of February in his apartment. I’m not going to report or speculate on what drove Arpad to take his own life but allegedly he wrote in his suicide note “Haters gonna hate” even after his death. It sounds like something that people say when brushing off unwarranted criticism and I was under the impression that he was a strong man confident in himself. He even did a straight porno just to prove he could.
One article reporting on his death suggested that as bloggers we need to do a better job of moderating our commenters for hateful viciousness. I agree to some degree but then a lot of public figures are on twitter and receiving the hate delivered straight to them on their timeline/feed. They have to moderate their own which defeats the purpose. In the past I’ve received some horrible comments on this blog that were attacking me for the sake of it, totally unrelated to whatever I was posting or anything I did, just hate for the sake of it.
I have no answers. I’ve said it before that a lot of people seem to go in to porn for the wrong reasons. I’m not saying that Arpad was one of them, but it would seem that he wasn’t quite emotionally equipped to deal with some of the harsh realities of the industry. Only people with a thick enough skin to show it off from all angles are going to survive the chew em up and spit em out industry.
Very sad to hear. It is indeed a tough industry.
And, yes, there are some mean-spirited ‘individuals’ that delight in tearing others down and spreading their venom all from the anonymity of a computer.
Sad to read especially if it was strangers tearing him down. I’m a reader, not a commentator, so this is a first. It’s easy to ignore the haters, just don’t give them a voice, turn off your twitter, turn off your facebook. It’s easy to hate, loving something is harder work.
