An update on the exhibition

A long time reader and supporter asked me how things were going with the next exhibition so I thought I’d give you a bit of an update. So far I’ve done nine shoots specifically for the exhibition with two more scheduled for this weekend and possibly one more to throw into the mix in the next few weeks. Add to that a shot that will be included that I shot a while ago that to me fits with the rest of them I should end up with close to 50 images that I will then cull down to 20. Exciting times.

The images above are shots that didn’t make the cut for the final exhibition. I like them but I liked others from those shoots more. It’s always interesting to get different opinions on the shots. Some people are adamant that they should all be in colour but others will say some look better in black and white. I’m going with my gut on this one and I think that’s important. It’s not a commercial project where the client has the last say. This is my personal work that I’m putting out to the world, hoping that it’s a success.

WOW! Love those beautiful butts. If these are the photos you rejected, I can only imagine how beautiful the 20 are that you chose! Great work!

    Brenton,

I do enjoy how you are able to capture fluid motion, tectonics, and tension in your photos.

The question of color or black and white. Artistically, I favor black and white because, without color, lighting and composition are much more evident and interesting. Of course, there are some shots that can only be done in color.

I’ve never put together an exhibition, so no advice there.

Personally. I think this exhibition should be in colour. Your last one was in black & white and if you do two in a row of the same black and white I think people may start to think that’s all you do/can do. The ones with colour have much more depth and impact.

Wishing I could make it Sydney. After seeing the images you have posted so far of the ones that didn’t make the cut, I really want too see which ones did. Colour vs B&W is a question most photographers grapple with from time to time. I say go with your gut. Each has its own pros and cons and it depends on what you want to convey as too whether you use Black and White or Colour. All the best with the exhibition Brenton!
