About twenty years ago, American art photographer Spencer Tunick started photographing the nude. Back then he was shooting individuals and small groups and doing it illegally guerilla style on the streets of NYC. Now he’s being commissioned and courted to create his large scale mass nude installations pieces around the world. I was lucky enough to be a part of the Sydney piece a little over two years ago on the steps of the Sydney Opera House.

Tunick was recently commissioned by the Bavarian State Opera to shoot 1,700 nude people painted red or gold in front of the Munich Opera House in Germany. He was creating his interpretations of a Richard Wagner opera. It makes a striking image when you see a huge number of nude people but to see them all body painted as well makes it even more impressive.
