If you were kayaking a long way off shore and a Blue Whale, the world’s largest mammal, surfaced swimming along side you, what would you do? Jump in? I sure as hell would. That’s exactly what this guy did. Later in the video there are other boats nearby but this guy seems to be the only one swimming with them. I know it’s illegal to approach whales closer than a certain distance but if they swim up to you, then it’s hardly your fault is it?
It’s a way better experience than this guy had ending up standing on a great white shark!
Many whales are showing up along the entire Pacific of North America.
Thank you for the lovely post.
From the Australian government website:
“Do not get into the water if you see a whale or dolphin. If you’re already in the water do not disturb, chase or block the path of a whale or dolphin and if possible, return to your vessel or the shore.”
Not so good to encourage people to break the law, Brenton.
Sheez – that looks like so much fun! No wonder it is against the law! LOL! But heck! I’d do it! It is like you say, who can blame you if the whales come to you?
Good lord! I shared this blog post on my Facebook, and the thumbnail associated with it became a naked man in a JO device. Immediate panicky deletion! I was using the FB app for iPad, which doesnt show enough of an update to tell what the pic is before publishing. The link still took people to the whale post; it was only the associated image that was hijacked.
