Today, a bill passed in the New South Wales parliament’s lower house allowing same-sex couples to adopt. The bill was tabled with two amendments meaning faith-based adoption agencies have the right to refuse gay couples and also that birth parents have a say whether their child can be adopted by a same sex couple. One of the amendments still needs to be voted on before the bill can go to the upper house for ratification but it’s looking increasingly likely that NSW Same-Sex couples will be eligible to adopt very soon.

Congratulations. It’s is great seeing other countries being progressive in providing equal rights to everyone.
When we (Canada) put into law that allow same sex couples to marry, there were those that said our country would be ruined and it would spell the end to the traditional family. Well guess what. The only thing that changed was that same sex couples did start getting married and everyone went about there business. As it should be.
The good thing is that the more ocuntries that adopt legislation for same sex couples; ie marriage, adoption, benefits then the more pressure that is put on other countries/governments to do the same.
So many kids out there wanting to be part of a family and it has been proven over and over that kids don’t care whether it is two Mommies or two Daddies or even one Mom or Dad. If they are provided with a safe environment and love then they flourish. An added benefit is that it allows children to be brought up in a house that teaches acceptance from day one. Wouldn’t it be great if every house/family did that regardless of sexual orientation.
wow, excellent news! good luck with further approval
