This post may annoy a few people given that I am pursuing photography and would love to have my work in magazines like DNA but I’m going out on a limb here and saying that there is a lot of work out there that’s not quite cutting it for me.
Open nearly any gay magazine and you will see perfect torsos, sculpted abs and buns bouncier than a child’s jumping castle but rarely do you see a facial expression. Everywhere you look are guys that look incredible in underwear and swimwear with bumps in all the right places but please, can we manage more than a blank stare? I understand that sometimes the blank look is part of the overall style of the shoot. I also realise that sometimes the models are flexing their abs, pecs, triceps and biceps and buns at once and something’s gotta give while they aren’t allowed to breathe. I also understand that for some models (pandering to stereotypes wildly here) that some of them just remembering to breathe is a challenge.
For me, and it’s just my preference, in a swimwear and underwear shoot where the models are around a pool or on a beach, surely it’s not too out of context to do something with their face, like smile?

that’s the difference between a good model and a great model…..there is just too many not so good models that get work cos they have an amazing body…..
Hear, hear!
And I often find the best models are the ones which aren’t perfect (or haven’t been photoshopped): an ‘imperfection’ can throw up the beauty of the rest and therefore adds to the whole rather than detracting from it.
Shouldn’t they have fun while they show things off, both dressed and/or undressed?
From the ‘beautiful’ people there are only a few, from us average Joe’s, many. And beauty is only in the eye of the beholder.
Agree with you bud, the sameness of the pics is terrible, I also hate that we are still in the “no body hair” is beautiful stage, I am so sick and tired of plucked, shaved, waxed men I could scream
check list of things that bother me about models:
1. no facial expression (agree with you on that one)
2. flawless skin: skin so perfect, it looks artificial
3. “no body hair” (agree with pete, above)
4. one size fits all – you know a line up of exactly the same “look” exactly the same height, measurements, etc. I suppose it is easier having clothes in only one size when you are shooting a lot of models.
I follow a web site with lots of models, actors, sports people, clothed or not. Some of the more interesting pictures are either the candid or back stage being silly pictures. Some of the models that look quite boring on camera actually have a personality in some of these pictures and they look like real human beings.
The guy in the 2nd pic can look any damn way he wants! LOL Who is he??
OFF WITH THEIR HEADS I SAY………..why bother for a underwear/swimwear PIC………just focus in on the area that is being sold, and I think with YOUR creativity, you can gets some afuckingmazing shots, ALL headless…………..also, just some HEAD shots, with NO body would make for interesting PICS, they can be clothed, Posed or candid……and show expression, why even ORDINARY people can look interesting when just the face is shown…………
Smile you fit well paid bitches !!!
