I see no discomfort

When Jason Akermanis announced that straight footballers wouldn’t be comfortable with a gay teammate in the locker rooms with all the horse play and nudity he clearly wasn’t speaking for Nick Youngquest. Nick has been in the pages of DNA, drooled over by gay blogs and just adored by gay men for some time and is quite apparently very comfortable with it.

After Elton has chronicled a twitter conversation between Nick and out and proud Rugby player Gareth Thomas that gets pretty saucy and full of suggestive banter between two guys that are very comfortable with each other and a level of sexy teasing between two guys on different sides of the sexuality fence. It’s a great read, very amusing and proves that not all footballers are as neanderthal as Akermanis.

I’m not sure why you’re calling guys that don’t like being naked around gay teammates “neanderthals”. Straight guys simply want a locker room to be a place to get cleaned up and hang out with teammates. No one wants to be put in situation where they are uncomfortable.

Just because a straight guy doesn’t want to be around gay men doesn’t make his opinions wrong. I’m a gay man, but completely respect that straight guys feel uncomfortable around most homosexuals. And I don’t feel they should be forced to believe my way of life is correct.

I really dislike how the gay community believes everyone should be so open minded about homosexuality. Since when did our opinions become the only correct way to think?
