Paddy’s Bar in Albury – Not Good Enough!

Thanks to the world of facebook I’ve just stumbled across this video put together by a gay person who was, along with several others, thrown out of Paddy’s Bar in Albury, southern New South Wales. Officially the bouncer said it was because they were intoxicated. The only problem is that none of them were. The bouncer said it wasn’t his decision and he knew they weren’t drunk but it came from management.

Sometimes it’s easy to believe that massive progress has been made, when you live in a city like Sydney. Unfortunately, stories like this prove that there is a long way to go.

Albry is my home town, I was eating and drnking at Paddy’s a few weeks ago.
Not suprised to here what’s happened here. My sister was telling me about her ‘sober’ mature aged friend who was also thrown out for no good reason.

The management does have a problem, but it’s not limited to gays.
I lookforward to kissing my boyfriend in that bar next time I visit Albury. I’ll let you know what happens.

Shame they can’t spell or use grammar correctly when trying to make their point. Ignorance and lack of education is as annoying as stupidity (like homophobia)

This response is directed toward our many loyal patrons – who come from all walks of life – our staff and our management team, all of whom have expressed some degree of concern or anger over this amateur YouTube video.
At Paddy’s we are forced to eject hundreds of people each week. We kick out 18-year-old girls, middle-aged women, old men, young men, tall people, short people, fat people, skinny people, blondes, brunettes, redheads, indigenous people, Italians, Greeks, Chinese, Lebanese, Aussies, yobbo’s, footballers, netballers, accountants, solicitors, plumbers, carpenters, hairdressers, nurses, dole bludgers, social workers, smart people, dumb people and — guess what — even gay people and straight people.
This has nothing to do with who they are or what they do with themselves, sexually or otherwise. It has EVERYTHING to do with tough liquor licensing laws.
We concede that mistakes are sometimes made in identifying intoxicated people, but we simply don’t have the luxury in NSW, and particularly in Albury, to get a call wrong in favour of the patron. It means we will end up in court with massive fines and penalties to be paid as a result – and these have already cost me tens of thousands of dollars.
Paddy’s is far and away the most popular venue in North East Victoria and Southern NSW.
The reason why our venue continues to attract so many culturally diverse patrons is because we cater for and warmly welcome people of all ethnic backgrounds, socio-economic levels and lifestyle alternatives.
More to the point, we have a number of gay staff, one of them part of our senior management team, all of whom are employed for their capabilities, without a thought to their sexual orientation.
The fact we are forced to defend these allegations is ridiculous and personally offensive to me. Whoever made this video is no longer welcome at my venue – and I will give you a little tip – this has nothing to do with your sexuality.
Yours sincerely – Craig Shearer – proud owner of Paddy’s Irish Bar.
