Any long time readers will know that getting to Burning Man is a big item on my list of things to do and I’m seriously hoping to tick that one off this year. What’s the problem you ask? The logistical magnitude of getting organised to go, getting in there, getting everything I’ll need in there and surviving, plus the cost of the endeavour is quite large. I am also probably going to be doing it alone. There are people I know going, like the ScenicBoys who I would love to spend time with, but I’ll essentially be going just me, if it happens this year.
Essentially that wipes out the possibility of an RV or campervan setup as I just don’t have the money to do that alone. So without a vehicle how do I get there? Lots of thinking to be done. I don’t want to put it off again, but logistically it might have to happen.

This is a good place to start …

Have you been to the US before? I can’t remember.
Burning Man has been on my list for the last few years. I have several friends who go regularly. But none of them have invited me so I guess I won’t be going either.
Our camp “the Reno Housewives” would love to have you join us, and serve as a base camp. Some friends from the UK and elsewhere have shipped critical gear to us – the playa is our backyard, and we’ve managed the transport to the desert sans trouble. Logistically, dependent on your arrival and departure times we can assist in getting you delivered to the event as well. Otherwise, there is a shuttle of sorts from the airport to the festival that I hear seems to work.
We’re a mixed group 12-15, playa vets and newbies, f & m, queer and str8t, various ages. We’ve been a registered theme camp for the last 4 years, though the application process has become very competitive, we typically are granted early arrival. My SO and I generally stay for 9 days.
If that is enough of a carrot, please feel free to contact.
Hey B, we’ll keep you looped in on our plans. We’ve only recently started planning, but when things start falling together we’ll let you know. Perhaps you could fly into Seattle and caravan with our group. :)
I’ve followed Burning Man for a few years and I’ve known a few of the participants. The thought of venturing into such an inhospitable environment at the peak of the summer heat is daunting, to say the least. With half a year to prepare, there’s a good chance that you will be able to hookup with a small group to share accomodations and expen$e$.
Burning Man is, of course, becoming very popular. I fear that it’s popularity will soon be its demise :-(
Good luck!
Hi Brenton, great site! you’ll probably be flooded with invitations!! Find one that feels right and go for it!! As a first timer an experienced camp will make your time way easier even if it’s just an hospitable crash site! Enjoy and may see you there!!
As was stated before by ChaCha (aka, the Reno Housewives cohort), you will receive a ton of invitations–as you have heard, the Burning Man environs are like none you have experience wrt acceptance and open invitation. You MUST make the trip of a lifetime. I have never posted a response to your blog but have been a goggle subscriber for many years. I have a friend who has a camp at 5 o’clock and Perimeter (right at the airport gate) on the playa every year. I will not attend this year, but his camp is a destination for all (I am sure ChaCha has been there or, at least, heard of them). Wherever I visit him in the world, I follow him like a puppy dog without reservation to get my bearings. I hope you can fulfill a dream of a lifetime. Please let me know and I will make an email introduction. Cheers!!
