The fourth plinth in the square was never 'occupied' and remained empty until 1999 -2001 when a series of temporary artworks were placed there. In 2005, it was decided to make it a continuing changing exhibition. Currently there is a commemorative statue of Sir Keith Park, due to be replaced in 2010 by 'Nelson's ship in a bottle': http://www.london.gov.uk/fourthplinth/plinth/shonibare.jsp 'One and other" was amazingly successful and could be viewed live on one of the satellite Arts TV channels.
