In a stark contrast to each other I know two guys that are getting into modelling, but for very different reasons. I have shot one of the guys twice now and his mission is to get on the cover of DNA magazine. Now don’t get me wrong, he’s a nice guy but if I’m perfectly blunt, he’s never going to be on the cover. He’s not an ugly guy by any stretch but it’s a very small percentage of people hot enough to be on the cover of a magazine.
Why does he want this so bad? He wants to fit in and be one of the “A-gays” and thinks that being on the cover of DNA and being a model will get him there. Maybe for a small percentage it will help but his real friends already like him the way he is but to him, this goal will resolve any insecurities he has, which are many.
The other guy, I haven’t shot yet. I met him a couple of years ago as part of my mardi gras float. This guy is one of the guys that was on the fold-out cover of DNA’s 100th issue and is a good looking guy with a ripped and defined body. He is thinking of dabbling in modelling to get some extra cash while he’s studying. He’s really humble and maybe as insecure, but it’s manifesting itself in a very different way. He’s not sure he photographs very well but after double checking his DNA cover I can attest he does quite nicely and he was the only real lifesaver on that cover.
The two cases highlight just how different self-perception can be and even if it’s the same, the vastly different ways it can manifest itself. I wish them both all the success in the world, but I know which photoshoot I’ll enjoy more!

mi charo amici! I love that you put Raoul Bova in this set. I want to make love all over him :) Would you like to be noted as the photographer of a cover shot for DNA? Perhaps your friends need to talk to each other and gain the perspective of the opposite view point. They could level each other out.
I hope he has higher ambitions in life than being on the cover of DNA magazine! ;)
