Join the National Day of Action

This Saturday is the National Day of Action for Marriage Equality around Australia. I’m going to be there and I hope thousands and thousands of others are too. Gay, Straight and everything in between, we all need to show our support. Even if you have no desire to get married, isn’t it a basic right that we have the option if we choose to?

I would like to know that if one day, in a mythical land in the future, I find someone wonderful to share my life with, that I can do so in a legally recognised union. For full details about the day of action, visit the official website. I hope to see you all there.

Anything less is saying we’re happy to sit at the back of the bus…equal, but not quite equal enough to sit at the front with all the white folk.

I could not disagree with you more. Marriage is not a right, it’s contract. There is nothing to be gained by cravenly buying into a failed and morally bankrupt institution. We all know about the endurance of marriages in terms of divorce and separation statistics. And how many others are left miserable, let alone, not exactly holding onto their marital vows?

Seeking marriage is seeking acceptance on the terms of the social structures we rebelled from, were harassed by and from whom we remain enduring actual discrimination and real violence. Seeking marriage is like returning defeated back to an abusive relationship, allowing and encouraging the perpetrator to have the smug look of satisfaction and moral superiority.

    Yes to equality
    No to marriage
