I’m looking around my room and wondering where the hell all my stuff is going to go in if we get accepted to move into the place we’ve applied for. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this moving business and I’d forgotten how stressful it can be. I’ve been lucky enough to have an enormous bedroom in a house with HEAPS of storage space. It’s almost definite that I won’t end up with anywhere near the same amount of space in a new place and absolutely certain if we get the place we are waiting to hear about.
It’s a great opportunity to consolidate again and eliminate stuff that I’ve been hanging on to “just in case”. All that “just in case” stuff is now going out the window. Why do I need ten beach towels and ten bath towels? I don’t. My Sister and her husband are coming to pick up some furniture that I have and don’t need or have room for anymore. It’s all starting to get scary and very real in an exciting way.

I’m with you on this one, Brenton. Faced with unemployment and the possibility of a move, I’m scrutinizing my “stuff” and preparing to downsize.
I just made a major move across country. Although the house I was moving into was larger than where I was living. I had 10 days to pack up and move a 2400sq house and it was tempting to just put it all off until I got into the new place. Until I realized how much the actual cost of moving everything was going to be.
I found these resources extremely helpful. Once I got started I was amazed how much ended up either being sold off or donated to charity. Plus it felt amazing to move into a new place with that clean-slate feeling. Also, it actually helped the move go faster and smoother.
Best of luck!

Send me one of those bath towels….but not before you’ve used it.
Brenton,
I wouldn’t be so fast to get rid of furniture until you move into the place because looks can be deceiving. You may think you don’t have the room, but, when you get in you may have it… I would wait for your sister and hubby to pick up furniture until you actually move. The little stuff yes get rid of paper work, and crap like that…. but, don’t be to hasty on the furnishings.

It’s a quick read, and will help you part with things and guide you as to what to get rid of, and what to keep.
Best of luck with all that… and yes, it’s stressful! Don’t forget to care of YOU.
