Sounds like a scene from a porno but sadly it didn’t descend quite to that level. We were in a back alley in Darlinghurst, shooting James when these two Mormons came down the alley on their way to harrass enlighten people to the wonderful world of oppression and bigotry in the name of love.
One of them seemed a little too happy to pose with James, while the other one seemed a little scared that he might catch “sinner” if he got too close. The dark haired one even said “we saw you from a distance and I said WOW he’s BUFF”. That was a little unexpected.
Later in the shoot James was in his underwear on a street corner posing when the police asked him to cover up. Oops. The family getting into their car thought it was hilarious.
A little FYI: A little known fact about Mormon missionaries; most of them are gay. The response to ‘muscle man’ does not surprise me at all. The one who was excited is probably closer to coming out when he returns home than the other one who is frightened because he saw what he wants and is afraid to get it. How do I know this? I used to be a Mormon and I know a lot of ‘returned missionaries’. I grew up in this religion. It is little understood even by its members. I have no quarrel with it or any religions for that matter. I simply stay away from them.
It would be interesting to see how their mission president will respond if he finds out they were photographed with him and the photo has been posted on a gay blog. I am sure they will receive some ‘counselling’. OH, did they invite you to a discussion?

Caught this article from a fellow gay mormon’s blog–I’d say if either of them are gay, it’s the fellow on camera right. Look at how his eyes are wide and looking STRAIGHT into the camera. As if he’s afraid to have his head tilted even slightly toward the bodybuilder.
I have many a straight Mormon friend who’d smile giddly while getting close to a “sinner” for a photo op. The missionaries I assisted in Boston would stop and get photos with this guy holding a sign saying “gays, mormons, jews, muslims are all going to hell, et al” and laugh their heads off about it.
Also, the guy on camera left is left handed! His watch is on his right hand, and that’s how left-handers often wear watches!

Oh boy, now you’ve hit a nerve…..being from Idaho, I have TONS of Mormon friends. Many many who are gay. As for these two cutie pies, either will do. I just saw a shirt on a dude the other day that I simply must have for my closet: “Mormon Boy….Worth the Wait.”
