Today, a ticket to Kylie’s X tour came into my possession a full week before they go on sale to the general public. It’s not uncommon for presale tickets to go to companies and people subscribed to different deals. A friend came through BIG time for me today.
On the way home, a though occurred to me. EVERY tour I’ve been to of Kylie’s, I’ve gone with an ex, or someone very soon to become an ex. My first Kylie concert was the Impossible Princess, Intimate and Live tour in 97. I was there with a girlfriend and ex-girlfriend before I changed teams. The second concert was the On a night like this tour. I’d bought the tickets when I was seeing my last real boyfriend (yeah, those who’ve done the maths, that was 7.5 years ago) but we’d broken up by the time the concert rolled around. Not at all hard when she sang “I can’t get you out of my head”. She sang it for me, I’m sure.
In 2002 I was lucky enough that another ex, now a very good friend, had a spare ticket to the Fever tour, I didn’t even mind that much when he sang all the way through it!
2006 saw me with an extra ticket to the Showgirl Homecoming tour. Kylie’s first performances since her battle with breast cancer and timed beautifully with the visit from the U.S. of Mike. That was about the time when the relationship crumbled to a heap. Very different versions of monogamy at play there. Mono is ONE, Mike, not just one at a time.
So, in 2008 I’m keeping true to form and going with Russ, the same ex that got me a ticket to Fever in 2002 an is still a very dear friend. Maybe this time I’ll try and say hi to lots of boys. Hell, the auditorium holds several thousand people. I’d guess at least a third will be big ol’ Kylie loving homos like me.
