Three loads of rubbish

My flatmate and I had another one of our Thai take away and DVD nights last night. I went and collected dinner and chose the movies. We are always keen to give gay cinema a chance but it so routinely craps all over itself. Last night was no exception. I hired three DVD’s, two gay ones, one of those French, the other from the US. The French one was just a shambles. A guy comes out, then for some reason sleeps with his now ex-girlfriend, who then bitches that he doesn’t look at her the same way he look at the guys he shags. No shit sherlock! The U.S. movie was so filled with cliches it was ridiculous. The over-the-top party boy slut, the very earnest and quiet monogamous couple, who are so boring it hurts, the fag hag, the lying rent boy, and the serious colleague who tries to challenge everything the slut believes in. It’s so good that we are making such progress in our portrayals on film. No wonder we have right wing religious folks condemning us to hell… it’s actually because of our bad cinema.

The third movie was an Australian movie called Gabriel. About Arch Angels coming to earth to fight it out with the fallen dark angels. It tried to be the matrix. It tried to be underworld, it tried to be intellectual. It was none of those things. It did however have Andy Whitfield as Gabriel in the lead role. He was far from the worst actor in the movie and damn if he wasn’t hella pretty to look at. The former model was the best thing in the movie, but sadly that’s not saying much.

Update: Sorry Yani, good point. The French one was called “You’ll get over it” or something and yes he had a brother who was a boxer. The U.S. one was “Four letter word”. The only good thing about that one was seeing David from Someone in a Tree in the nude yoga scene.

I’d dance with this star!

Dancing with the stars is shortly about to shimmy it’s way back onto our TV screens with a, thankfully, new host, the hot Daniel Macpherson. One of the celebrities about to flex his dancing muscles is AFL star, Collingwood player, Paul Licuria.

He’s one of the glamour boys of AFL but from what I can see he actually has a bit of talent on the field. I may actually tune in to one or two of the shows to see how he goes and see if he matches his former team mate Brodie Holland’s outfits on the show a couple of years ago.

Don’t forget to go here to vote in the first Aussielicious Awards, where Daniel Macpherson is in the running!

Ricky Martin has two boys!

Ricky Martin has confirmed, via his publicist that he is now the father of twin baby boys. He fathered the children with a surrogate mother. Surely this isn’t doing much to dispel the constant speculation on his sexuality? Congratulations to Ricky, who is now planning some time off to bond with his children and to raise them. Imagine how cool it will be going to school having Ricky as your dad? Read the full article here.

Good for the team

The ratings for this year’s Olympics by all accounts, have been fantastic, especially in the US while Michael Phelps were swimming, but I’m all for bringing back the original state for the Olympians. Nude. Surely it would be good for the team to bond? I’m not sure sprinters like Bolt would be quite as aerodynamic without some support but damn it would be fun to watch. Imagine the devastation of the pole vaulters if they clear the bar only to have their nuts just clip the bar.

So close but so far

I’ve been feeling much better apart from a very persistent and disgusting cough so took myself off to my aerial silks class tonight. Sadly, as good as I feel, I quickly realised that I didn’t have much energy. On a positive note, it does force you to think about your form and technique because you just don’t have the strength to bully your way through it.

What’s your type?

It’s no secret that I’m attracted to swimmers bodies, but I also like a bunch of other bodies. The Olympics are the perfect time for us to indulge in checking out our favourite athlete shapes, from the short but oh so strong gymnasts, powerful sprinters, stocky weightlifters and all the other boys in between. What’s your favourite?

It makes you wonder why

Next Sunday the next season of Australian Idol kicks off here and as much as I love the show and it’s car crash moments, I wonder why they are bothering. Each year the winner has been less successful than the previous year to the point where last year’s winner, Natalie Gauci released her winners single and has never been heard of again. I know they chose to let her record and release and album of new material instead of rushing out a winners album, but surely the moment has passed and no one gives a rats arse any more

Sportilicious - The greatest sportsman ever.

I’ll admit that when i first heard of Michael Phelps a few years back, my first impressions were cocky and arrogant. As Aussies, we are very protective of our swimmers and swimming, like all sports is full of good natured rivalry and a bit of sledging to throw the other team off.

After seeing interviews with Phelps in the subsequent years and in the lead up to Beijing and now over the 8 days of swimming competition, I have the utmost respect for the man. He has just become the most successful athlete at a single Olympic Games, EVER with 8 gold medals and the most decorated Olympian of all time with, I think, 12 Gold. The man is a machine, with an arm span 7 inches longer than his actual height and a surprising amount of modesty and respect for all his fellow competitors. I won’t say he’s not a little cocky or arrogant, but I don’t say it in a bad way. Every elite athlete has to be a bit selfish and full of themselves or they won’t achieve the greatness that Phelps has. Congratulations Michael and continued success!

It’s time to vote!

After a week of taking nominations for the first ever Aussielicious Awards it’s time to vote for your hottest Aussie. The Anthony Callea fans drummed up business for him and are probably going to do it again for actual voting, so if you wanna see someone win, you’d better drum up support for them too!

Left to right in the photos above we have Anthony Callea, Hugh Jackman, Gay Olympic Diver Matthew Mitcham, Daniel Macpherson and the delicious Will Fennell. It’s a nice cross section of ages, body types, hirsute-ness and talents and I think, pretty representative of what we’ve got going on in Australia although we do have a bit more of a cultural mix here.

What would your super power be?

I’m having a very lazy Saturday today, partly because I’m still not up to full speed and partly because all my friends are out of town, sick themselves or busy. So I’ve just sat and watched an old Batman. I love the mythology behind superheros and their evolution. I think the appeal of Batman is that he doesn’t actually have a super power, just truckloads of gadgets, knowledge, training and passion.

It got me thinking. What would you want as your super power? Growing up swimming and at the beach I always loved the idea of Aquaman, but let’s face it, he’s a little average on dry land. I would love to be able to fly, it would really come in handy, especially given Sydney’s traffic problems at the moment. The other bonus is that you could get away with some bad food and not worry about your abs, they are built in to your costume. Handy.

To brighten your day

I went to bed as soon as I got home from work tonight but got a second wind and couldn’t sleep. Turns out it was lucky because I just got to watch that stunning bed contemporary routine from Twitch and Kerrington on So you think you can dance.

I thought I’d just post these sexy pics of the newest aussieBum model, for no good reason apart from the fact that he’s very pleasing to the eye. Enjoy. I should be more up to speed tomorrow.

YAY!

This is the way to make me feel better! A new Kylie video. The One is going to be released I believe in September. It’s back to cool dance stuff for Kylie. It’s a dancier version than is on the album and I love it. She looks great too. Ok now I have to go back to work. It’s going to be a long day.

Barely moving

I’m sorry for the complete lack of updates over the last few days. Today is the 3rd day in a row i’ve been in bed with the flu. I took myself off to the doctor this morning and he’s given me some antibiotics which hopfeully will have me back on track quick smart. Today I don’t feel quite as dead as the last couple of days.

Award nominations

We’ve had plenty of nominations for the Hot Aussielicious Awards. It took longer than I thought for Daniel McPherson (centre) to be nominated but thankfully he was. There have been some glaring omissions so far, like the delicious Tom Williams (right). Get creative, get nominating!

I thought so!

Today my email was flooded with nominations for Anthony Callea for the Aussielicious Awards and, sure he’s pretty cute, but he’s not your typical “hottest guy on the planet” so I thought something was up.

Sure enough when I checked my incoming links this evening, someone has posted the competition on an Anthony Callea fan forum. SO! From here on in we can just accept that Anthony will be in the final 5 and stop trying to influence the judges, i.e. me? Let’s have some diversity in the votes. Damien from NZ nominated someone I was hoping would get a look in, Daniel McPherson. Yum.
