Tragic loss

Australian actor Mark Priestly from the TV drama All Saints (above centre with his colleagues) has apparently tragically committed suicide. He’s suffered depression for some time. He left work early two days ago because of his depression and colleagues were worried about him. His body was found on a building awning after he allegedly threw himself off the building. Read the article here.

Please, if anyone is suffering from depression and thinks there is no alternative, there is. There is always someone to talk to no matter what you are going through. Everyone has dark moments, please deal with them in a healthy way.

how very sad and I know you probably mean well but an inane comment like “Please, if anyone is suffering from depression and thinks there is no alternative, there is. There is always someone to talk to no matter what you are going through. Everyone has dark moments, please deal with them in a healthy way… that is so vacuous!!!…. did you try out for I so want to be a super model

    Dear Jack

Vacuous? You are calling me vacuous because I don’t want people needlessly killing themselves? I lost an old school friend early this year to suicide to I take great offence to your comment and don’t quite believe that you would take that post as anything more than genuine.

Not surprisingly you’ve used a fake email so I couldn’t reply via email.

As someone who lives with clinical depression I am gratified to see someone like Brenton highlight the fact that there ARE always alternatives. A good thing for someone with a blog that gets as many hits as his does.

Jack - your comment is uncalled for and offensive.

Clealry it is Jack who is vacuous.

Thanks Brenton for highlighting pathways for getting thru the dark times.

As someone who has suffered clinical depression to the point where I had determined my means of suicide, I certainly did not find Brenton’s comment vacuous. I do find “Jack’s” comment unnecessarily spiteful and nasty.
Thankfully I had access to formal counselling, had great support from friends and family. Without trying to take over Brenton’s blog, I would strongly implore anyone that sees a friend going through depression, be there for them. Don’t offer the “chin up comment” which I got from some; be prepared to “sit in the darkness” with them and help them find those things that they enjoy.

Brenton - I know it is difficult having people pass judgement on your posts and we who have come to know you through this blog or in real life know how genuine and intelligent you are which really makes the “vacuous” comment total bullshit!

Of course there is more behind Jack’s comment than we could ever know and I hope that He - like those who live with depression or have gone through it and decided to continue with living - come to realise that we all have choice in every moment even when there a times when we don’t think we have any.

My choice after attempting to crash my car on the freeway going 190km/h and surviving was to find the silver lining in everything and as you know I know lead a very positive life and assist others to do the same..

Much love to you my friend and continue to write and share.

    cheers Don

I’m with Jack. You are a vacuous guy, Brenton. This is just another meaningless post of drivel. You didn’t know the guy, you don’t care about him and your flippant comment - “Please, if anyone is suffering from depression and thinks there is no alternative, there is.” - is just laughable jingoism meant to make you look like a ‘good guy’. In reality, it doesn’t help anyone, and it’s completely cheap and meaningless. It also feeds into the sick celebrity worship our society suffers from. It’s ridiculous that a nobody actor most of us have never heard of befoee kills himself and suddenly front-page news and being blogged about by vacuous queens.
