Today saw the largest Mass ever held in Australia as World Youth Day kicked off with over 150,000 deluded closeted virgins in town to hear the bigoted ramblings of a former Hitler Nazi Youth member now heading up a wonderfully large organisation of paedophiles.
Sorry, got a bit carried away there but I have a major problem with the Catholic church and organised religion in general. The Pope is officially going to apologise to victims of sexual abuse at the hands of the Catholic Church. In typical catholic confessional tradition, that is expected to absolve them of guilt. I’m sorry? Gay men are an abomination and condoms are evil, both of which are LEGAL, but molesting children just needs a little apology. Fuck off. You’d better not stand too close to me while World Youth Day celebrations are on because I will be blaspheming constantly and may get hit by lightening.

So agree with everything you said! Good on you!!The fucking hypocrisy within the church and all the awful behaviour that is excused because of Christianity disgusts me. Im embarrassed to have world youth day in my own city!

Brenton – lets not diss ALL religions. As a Progressive Jew I can witness that my religion TRIES to do the right thing. Doesnt always succeed, but at least stays away from the bad.
Amen Brenton… LOL… Hmmm… I wonder if there is a Church of Brenton… I need to confess my sins… Shall I kneel? ;)
Love from Atlanta
I am more concerned about the last two lines you wrote; as you may actually believe somewhat that you will be punished from above by blaspheming?
I am a gay practicing catholic and my church is full of them every Sunday. There shouldn’t be any sexual abuse in any organization, but people are human. The Washington Post in a study found out that the abuse in the Catholic Church is minuscule compared to the Protestant Church, especially the Baptists – now there’s a group who think we are an an abomination – and no where near the problem as in public schools.Should we close them down, too?
The Catholic Church does not call gays an Abomination and our Catechism says we are born that way.Going back a 100 years look at the countries where we were not persecuted. Why did gays move to France,Spain and Italy?I love you Brenton, read you daily, but don’t insult us at my church – committed couples and all. Well evidently us gay Catholics push your buttons and you don’t understand why we love our Church, but we are not as reactionary as you seem to think. Remember Oscar Wilde became one of us horrible Catholics before he died.We are not perfect, and we do some good in poor countries, especially Africa – so give your gay Catholic daily readers a break. Love Ya! Tom
Preach it Rev. Brenton! :-)
This is a dangerous topic but I mostly agree with the way you feel. Speaking as a reformed Baptist, I too have lost my confidence in any form of organized religion. To me, they are all hypocrits and should really tend to their own flock before trying to tell us how to tend to ours.
Love your site.. keep up the good work and most importantly… keep the HOT PICs coming.
hey Tom Kohler,
GO FUCK YOURSELF and GIVE US A BREAK.
For almost two millennia your church has been a force of EVIL in the world. Your church seeks to oppress gays … TODAY. I live in the US and the catholic church is at the forefront of the fight against same-sex marriage, anti-discrimination laws to protect gays, keeping birth control out of the hands of people who DESPERATELY need it (amazing how easy it is to oppress people when you saddle them with a bunch of kids and tell them their salvation depends in part on not using birth control.)
Oh yeah, and your church doesn’t believe in a woman’s right to control her own fucking body. AND THEN, when those fetuses become real children and have been abused by priests in the church, your hypocritical popes and priests have not protected them, but chosen to protect the church instead.
DON’T INSULT US BY ASKING US TO FUCKING “RESPECT” AN OPPRESSIVE AND EVIL INSTITUTION AND THE PEOPLE WHO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT IT.
Hi Mike, I respect your ignorance and inability to use adjectives besides the F word to express yourself.
Hi Tom, I don’t want your fucking respect. You’re just another guy who helps keep gay people down by supporting and defending those who’d keep us down. Go light a fucking candle, you superstitious dummy.
Hey Mike, I am gay, too. I am glad I am gay. I guess what they say is true about Religion and Politics – avoid them in discussions.Brings out the worst in us.
Have a good one. Cool off and enjoy your day.
Sincerely,
Doctor Superstitious Dummy
sorry Tom, I’d like to be Mr Nice-guy Tolerance, but honestly, I don’t want your well-wishes, your perspective, your humour, your sincerity, or your advice to “cool off.”
I’ll “cool off” when your church stops poking it’s uninvited nose into my bedroom.
I’ll “cool off” when your church stops trying to legislate my behaviour and whom I can love and civilly marry.
I’ll “cool off” when gays who say “I am glad I am gay” start acting like it by condemning the institutions, like your church, that oppress gay people.
Hi Mike,
Excellent reasoned response, and if you were one of my students at the University, I would have to give you an A+. Now take umbrage at a compliment. I look forward to your pissed off response.
You probably won’t hear from me again. I was just asked to leave my home because the fire was getting too close and I have to evacuate. Take care, Mike.
well FUCK AGAIN … I was wishing, I don’t know, maybe a pie in your and/or the pope’s face … not Dante’-esque inferno …
Tom, with all my heart, good luck … I grew up in Malibu and Montecito (southern california towns) and understand about fire … may the wind blow the fire away from you and those you love …
Hi,
I didn’t find any e-mail in your blog. How can I contact you about one item in your wish list?
While I respect your right to have an opinion on any topic, person, or event, I have to say I find your comments on World Youth Day and the papal visit to Australia troubling and disturbing. Not because I disagree with your opinion–that is the least of it. It is because your opinion is so full of hate and intolerance and hostility. Thanks!
Matthew
Good on you Brenton. As a 40 year old gay man with a lot of experience I have every right to hate and despise most organised religion. It is not benign. The world youth day is a political movement and attempts to indoctrinate children into Catholicism and all the hatred and denial of sexuality and sexual expression that entails. It is about social control. This pope has taken every opportunity including Christmas sermons to denigrate, slander and denounce gay men and lesbians and to restrict our rights and sexual expression. The Catholic Church is a strong political lobbying body all over the world. It has had an effect on politicians and legislation, certainly Mr Rudd has bent over backwards for the pope. Suggesting we should have respect. Respect is earned and I have no respect for a religion that is responsible for denying people the use of condoms which could save their lives and which tries to make the lives of gay men and lesbians as miserable as possible, which incites hatred against us and which has no respect for women except as a baby making machine. In the Uk where I live now the Catholic church has lobbied against every piece of liberal legislation related to sexuality, that I can remember. So much for love all I see is hate and bigotry and intolerance coming from Ratzinger and his ilk.
Hi Matthew, I am at a friends house, and I would expect you are gay, too, that you look at the website. I agree with you about the hate and intolerance. I don’t think Brenton is a “hate and intolerance” type of guy and I hope he thinks about what he said to insult a number of his readers.
Mike with whom I have been corresponding on this website is really a good guy – pissed off at my being a Catholic, He does not think I should be a member of something I disagree with. I am an American and I don’t agree with all that either. I really like Mike – and he is an intelligent guy when he gets away from all the “f’s” His list a few e mails back was really good. Sounds like an intelligent college kid.
Should I stop reading this website I really like because of all the vitriol and hatred of me and my church? Why would the church be against condoms for gays? Do gays have fallopian tubes in their throats and butts. I know I don’t.
I have been reading about how upset about how everyone is about about what the Catholics and Orthodox and some Christians teach, I hear no one from us gays complaining about the Muslims hanging gays in Iran and chopping off their heads in all the other Muslim countries. Lets hear it for equal opportunity. Catholics in America would never allow something like that to happen to me. Maybe some Fundamentalist groups, but not my religion. I hope they will finally change with a deeper understanding of psychology that we are normal.
I agree 100% with you brenton!
Greetings from Atlanta.
Pablo
Being baptised a roman catholic at birth and not having a choice in the matter and then later indoctrinised by the church to believe that what I am as a Gay man is wrong and that through guilt and sin that I will go to a hell that they have created, ALL THE WHILE being raped by priests inside the church from the age of 7 does not make it better when the pope declares he is going to say he is sorry.
What about all the years that I had to put up with this shit? What about the torment and hatred it caused me to feel towards people who I was supposed to trust as a kid?
How can they make up for that?
Sorry my ass. These disgusting people just keep the wheel turning all in the name of Jesus, which is supposed to absolve them of all sin and. Like fuck.
Karma.
That is all I can say
Thanks Brenton. Keep it up.
Religion is man-made and inherently flawed
The whole issue is not about who does what but about the fact that these people, (anyone who believes in God/Allah/Moses/Budha etc), go through their whole lives believing the most ridiculous story.
Take christianity – forget Jesus for one minute and think about his parents. They got married, then never had sex until Mary got miraculously pregnant. And that is the start of a completely ridiculous story.
If you are stupid enough to believe this crap, you are in for a HUGE shock when your time is up. There is no heaven, there is no hell, period!
As humans, our self awareness only feeds our egotism that we are going to continue after we die. You don’t, your body breaks down back into the earth.
To Tom Kohler: I have read what you’ve written and was just wondering if you’ve actually been to Africa? You say the Catholic church is doing good work over there but this is a very true/untrue statement. Sure, Catholic missionaries are working in Africa to help locals, but there is a lot of destruction that comes with them. I have worked in several countries in Africa and have seen this first hand. Did you know that some Catholic organisations tell Africans that condoms spread AIDs to stop them using them? This is so apalling I dont know where to begin! The religious hold that many religions (not just Catholics) have over Africans is not a positive thing. THe people there are so poor and they need help, so will take it from anyone. Many religious organisations do great work, but many offer their help while forcing their beliefs and lifestyles on people which is not right. I saw one religious-owned shelter for homeless children that threw the children back out onto the street if they did not attend Church twice. I saw Christian Priests take money from a religious boarding school for “their cut” when the school could not afford to pay the teachers the previous 3 months or feed their students adequately. Ive seen poor people kept hostage in religious-based hospitals because they could not afford to pay their bill.
In my mind genuinely religious people would want to help anyone and everyone, irrespective of their beliefs, and should have the ability to not force this on other people. So in a long-winded response to your comment about the “good” work done in Africa, it is something very close to me, and Id say there are many many destructive things done also.
For those who believe no explanation is necessary For those who do not believe no explanation is possible This is not about sexual abuse but faith some non Christians abuse as well so good and bad on both sides. Sexual abuse is abhorent in any form and no matter who does it
Hey Aussie – I wrote about this myself, and got some quite heated emails from some very angry Catholics –
http://gayskyhooker.blogspot.com/2008/07/pope-is-headed-for-my-home-town-sydney.html
As a Catholic myself, I found the email abuse contradictory in the extreme……. hmmm……
I recently saw this quote and thought it accurately described how I myself feel about the whole religion/God thing:
“The problem with all us boys is that we equate God with religion. I still struggle; I do lash out at what I perceive as God, but it’s really the bastardization of God by these people who hide behind their church, their book.”
You go girl! Don’t hold back now will ya! That certainly stirred up a lot of angst amonng the pilgrims of your “blog”! Lol
Bitter, aren’t we, Brenton?
Hey, Mike,
I felt your thoughtful response to Tom Kohler merited a response.
The Catholic Church is and has been a force for both good and evil. This is inevitably true of all human institutions because human beings are mixtures of good and bad.
Now for some fact checking. Like you, I live in the United States. You are correct that the Church is active in the fight against same-sex marriage, although evangelical protestants are the real force behind the movement here. The entire subject of marriage is a very complicated one which I do not want to go into here. But since gays have survived without spousal recognition for all of American history up to very recent times, I think your anger over the matter is a bit extreme.
While conservative protestants are opposed to any anti-discrimination laws that mention gays, I am not aware of the Catholic Church taking this stance.
As for your claim the the Church works to keep contraceptives out of the hands of people, it is false. The Church believes that natural family planning is the morally proper alternative to contraception and so instructs its members. It does not engage in efforts to make contraceptives unavailable.
And lastly let me say that human fetuses are real children already, asshole.
Hey Dave … first, I think you’re a selling out gays and again I say … GO FUCK YOURSELF.
Marriage isn’t fucking complicated at at all. As a civil institution that bestows basic rights to spousal health decisions, inheritance, etc etc etc, it should be open to gay men and women.
The Catholic church is a force of great evil today in the world, period, and the evil that is done is so vile that it wholly overshadows any good that it’s members perform.
A group of men a who publicly declare chastity (hyprocrites, so many of them) tell their followers that birth control is wrong. The resulting population explosion in cultures that pay attention to these crazy old men breeds poverty, homelessness, child labor/abuse, and famine. BUT, these people sure are easy to control … by the church, by their governments. And Catholic workers do work hard to keep contraceptives out of the hands of not just Catholics, but people in general … ask anyone who’s worked on the “front lines” of Planned Parenthood or Dr.s Without Borders. Catholic policies promote EVIL.
I don’t give A FUCK who else is oppressing gays … Brenton’s post is about the catholic fools who follow these crazy old white men and think the evil old turds actually speak for god!
If anti-choice idiots like you actually believed any of the crap you hand out publicly, then there wouldn’t be a single child living in institutional hell instead of being adopted.
If catholics revered real children a tenth as much as a they do eggs, sperm, and fetuses, then the pedophiles and abusers in the church would have been put in jail, not protected by the church.
If catholics actually cared about children, they wouldn’t be fighting a new North Carolina law meant to protect kids from bullying … but that law also wants to protect gay kids, so the church is fighting it!
Anger is the right response to this evil institution. Because catholics are not content to simply live by their own faith … no, if we non-catholics don’t willingly fall in step, the this church tries to legislate and tell me how to live, who to love, who to marry civilly. FUCK YEAH THAT ME MAKES ME ANGRY.
I definitely agree with Matthew when he says…
“While I respect your right to have an opinion on any topic, person, or event, I have to say I find your comments on World Youth Day and the papal visit to Australia troubling and disturbing. Not because I disagree with your opinion–that is the least of it. It is because your opinion is so full of hate and intolerance and hostility. Thanks!
Matthew”
I would suggest therapy for that rage-against-organized-religion thing you have going on.
John M.
Face facts. If an organization discourages condom use in AIDS ridden countries and has ridiculously high levels of child molestation (which has mainly been handled by trying to cover it up over the years), then rage is a natural reaction! Next you’ll be saying we should be more “tolerant” of the Westborough Baptist Church.
While I can accept that a person can be a Catholic and not support such practices, it baffles me that they would associate themselves with an organization whose very leader stands in stark contrast to their own morality.
bigotry, by whatever other name, and from whatever provenance, is still bigotry. Brendan is as big a bigot as the Catholics he accuses of bigotry. interesting to note that catholics don’t have a monopoly of bigotry, but the gays of this page are as bigoted as the biggest of bigots they hate… the ad hominems are truly breath-taking, makes one wonders whether the gays in this page are capable of reasoned discourse…
hey Clay, please pull your head out of your dumb ass.
Speaking truth, or posting it on a blog, isn’t bigotry.
This pope has recently stated that homosexuality “tends” toward “intrinsic moral evil.” His words.
This guy, ratzinger, collaborates with the Nazis as a young man. Then, as an old man in 2001, ratzinger informs catholic bishops that the “Crimine Solicitationies” law (regarding strict secrecy in sex abuse cases) is still in effect, making it next to impossible for abuse victims to get any kind of cooperation from the church as they pursue the priests that abused them.
Right now the catholic church as an institution and catholic people in the US are fighting to preclude same-sex couples from marrying under civil law.
Right now, the US catholic church is part of coalition of whack-jobs preventing anti-bullying legislation – meant to protect kids in school here – from passing in North Carolina because the legislation includes gay kids. THEY’RE FIGHTING TO MAKE SURE BULLIES CAN’T BE PROSECUTED FOR GO AFTER GAY KIDS!
These aren’t my own little fantasies. This isn’t not some baseless, pre-conceived notion of who the pope is. These are not false allegations against an innocent institution and its leaders. It’s the fucking truth, and that’s not bigotry.
Don’t fucking come at me with “reasonable” … there’s nothing reasonable about this fucked-up religion.
so yeah, say I a LOUD “fuck you” to you, and to anyone who supports or defers to this hypocritical evil institution and its members and supporters.
Clay: Do you hate the KKK? If so, do you consider this “bigoted” on your part?
Just how much damage does an organization have to do before it becomes reasonable to disrespect it in your opinion?
Mike, old boy,
A great big GO FUCK YOURSELF right back at ya!
You are beyond any doubt the biggest asshole I’ve ever encountered on this blog.
You don’t make any substantive counterclaims against what I’ve said, you just shout a lot of accusations.
The Catholic Church is pure evil because you say so.
Whether or not unborn children are real people with real rights is irrelevent. No one who isn’t perfect is allowed to criticize anyone anyway. Unless, of course, he’s an angry, left-wing nutcase.
Ratzinger didn’t collaberate with the Nazis. He was forced into the Hitler youth and then the military and later deserted. You have a hell of a lot of nerve condemning pro-lifers, marriage traditionlists, Catholics, and others who disagree with you when you’re willing to libel Ratzinger like this, asshat.
Conservative Christians like the Pope may be self-righteous morons, but you’ve got them beat on that score by light-years, pal.
So again, FUCK YOU TOO!
I hope, Brenton, you’re pleased with yourself for the way your bitter, over-the-top anti-Catholic rant has brought angry dickheads like Mike out of the proverbial woodwork!
Good job!
Here’s a suggestion: stick to the eye candy from now on.
Dave, you’re not suggesting that people shouldn’t make their opinions known?
I think it’s an illuminating, if aggressive, discussion.
Curious that a religion that is supposed to be all about love stirs up so much rage…
Moronic Mike obviously does not know how to read. Brenton can hate Ratzinger for all I care. It is his bigotry that dismisses the tens of thousands young people gathered in Sydney as “fools” that I was referring to. That is bigotry in my book. And come to think of it. It is this attitude that should put him in the company of those he hates, for it blinds his capacity for rational discourse and judicious judgment. I would be afraid if Brenton were in a position of power. He could just as well exterminate all those “fools” because they happen to be in Sydney to celebrate world youth day.
But then perhaps Brenton, denying the onset of old age, just can’t stand the sight of tens of thousands young people who just happen to be Catholics. Bigotry of another type, but still bigotry.
“Moronic Mike obviously does not know how to read. Brenton can hate Ratzinger for all I care. It is his bigotry that dismisses the tens of thousands young people gathered in Sydney as “fools” that I was referring to.”
So its ok to hate the Pope, but wrong to even consider those that follow him as foolish? I’m finding it hard to see the logic in that.
If you discourage condom use in AIDS ridden countries, then you are being foolish. Surely you wouldn’t disagree with that statement.
By the same token, if you want to be a member of an organization whose leader discourages condom use in AIDS ridden countries, then you are also being foolish.
That isn’t bigotry, its just common sense.
clay and dave, you guys are fucked-up idiots.
FACT: Ratzinger collaborated with and fought for the the 3rd Reich until 1945, and he deserted only after it was clear that Germany would lose the war! THAT MAKES THE DUDE A NAZI.
FACT: Ratzinger was the Vatican’s pit bull when it came to closing ranks around pedophile priests in order to protect the church.
FACT: As pope, Ratzinger states that homosexuality “tends” to “intrinsic moral evil.”
FACT: The catholic church actively works against distribution of birth control and condoms in countries already plagued with famine, AIDS, and poverty.
FACT: The american catholic church is fighting, on a political level, legislation to protect kids from bullies (if gay kids are included), to same-sex civil marriages, to a woman’s right to control her own body.
OPINION: anyone dumb enough to follow this hypocritical evil religion and it’s former-nazi, pedophile-protecting, gay-hating pope … is a fool, at best.
I’ve got the name of a good therapist for Mike. He REALLY NEEDS IT!
Markymark: Read through the facts that Mike just listed. If they don’t make you angry at the Catholic Church, then you’re the one who requires therapy. Do you even acknowledge that those things have happened?
moronic mike and crazed crib, bigots!
You haven’t tried to respond to any of the points raised in the discussion, opting instead to just yell “BIGOT!” at anyone who disagrees with you. This has become a waste of time. Have a nice day.
You don’t get it, Crik. One does not discuss with bigots, gay or hetero. Bigotry precisely means that: inability to reason… I do not want to question Brenton’s and Mike’s and Crib’s dislike, or even hatred, of Benedict XVI. What I object to is calling the young people of world youth day “fools”. The respect they demand from the Church and which they think Benedict deprives them of they refuse as well to extend to these young people. There is a blatant double standard here. Bigotry is wrong when Benedict is accused of it, but gays like the above named gays are not bigots when they display behaviour and language they disapprove of in others. No. Thank God not all gays are the bigots that those three are. Some are more rational. Some are more cognizant of their own tendencies to bigotry and do everything to extirpate it from their system.
