It’s Friday afternoon here in Australia and I’m about to head to a school mate’s wedding. I don’t know when this trend of Friday weddings started but I like it, only partly because I get an afternoon off work. Weddings are bittersweet for me. I love the joy, hope and love that is in the air but it also brings it home to me that I don’t have anyone to marry and as yet in this country, it’s still not legal for me to marry who I want.
This video is from a German soap and unlike the American gay soap characters, these guys get to kiss. So far in Australian television, we’ve never really had a prominent gay couple. I wonder how long it will be?
Hey Brenton, love your blog –big fan and love your musings. But on the note of seeing gay couples on Aussie daytime TV? Sorry mate, but we rarely even get to see Asian and/or diversity characters at all so, sadly, it will take a while.

the german daily soap is called “Verbotene Liebe” (Forbidden Love) http://www.daserste.de/verboteneliebe/ , i think it’s special for this soap using a gay theme, because it’s public television

It’s so sweet, involves more shower scenes than you’d expect in non-German soaps, I think, and is really sweet. (And it gives one more reason for having a wide breadth of languages, for when things like this some up, although I think someone’s also done *some* subtitled clips of Oli und Christian on youtube, just have a search around.)
I’ve not actually been watching the rest of the programme generally, only skipping through to the OlixChris sections, so I don’t know how the characters fit in with the rest of the soap very well, but I get the feeling they kind of live in their own world mostly, so there are groups of characters, and they never seem to mingle with other groups. Sad as you may think it is, in terms of soaps as a whole, I think I prefer Neighbours? For hot stuff (and a very nicely written storyline, I hasten to add), I choose Verbotene Liebe.
Very sensual and beautiful clip! Yes, the majority of people are such Prudes in the U.S. and it will be our downfall! Religion, Puritanical attitudes about sex, and of course Politics…will destroy us all! Food, shelter and sex…the 3 basic instincts for survival…and we just can’t let them be! Pitiful creature, man.
