I think "in the scene" here doesn't so much mean hanging out in bars and clubs and going to all the gay events, as much as - at least for the purposes of this blog - a seemingly strong focus on gay icons and their music, porn stars, gay clothing and accessories, underwear, underwear, and underwear. And lots of naked guys in tip-top shape.

Not there is anything wrong with that, but since that is the overwhelming tone of this blog, aside from the occasional introspective post or interview, you have to expect that readers are going to make certain assumptions about you.

It's your blog and you should post what makes you happy. But since you don't in fact post about doing the laundry and cleaning the dishes or that annoying co-worker, as many do, people can easily assume you are only about being fabulous 24/7.

Hi Brenton,

I've been reading your blog since earlier last year and enjoy it very much, though this is my first comment. I'm afraid I agree with Tom. Certainly, you don't come over as a screaming queen but "gayness" does seem to play a big part in all that you do - no offence intended.

My partner and I are in our fifties and have been together for 25 years (no labrador or picket fence). I was never into the scene and find it hard to imagine that anyone could find a soulmate that way. "Ordinary life" is where you find a kindred spirit, where you can be your own genuine self - not the hot house of the scene.

Here endeth the lesson! Oh, I also agree with Sue too!

Anyway, keep dancing!

Good to see you back Brenton. I often wonder what "scene" really means across a range of people. Surely if you are going to meet someone you have to go to where other gay people "are." Whether that be night clubs or informal social groups who knows. If a group of gay friends go out...are they going to go out to a pub in Liverpool?
